Salsa Percussion and Dance Workshop
Join us a for an exciting workshop series of Salsa Dance & Salsa Percussion.  Learn the basics of the most sizzling and hottest dance today, “New York Club Style Salsa/Mambo On 2”.  We’ll cover proper timing and technique for footwork patterns (shines), ear training, developing a sense of rhythm, and introduction to partnering.  No partner necessary.  Just bring yourselves and your most comfortable dance shoes!  This workshop will also introduce you to the percussion instruments used in Salsa music:  Congas, Bongos, Guiro, Maraccas, Clave, Cowbell.  You’ll experience first hand how to play each one individually and as a group.  Understanding Salsa music is key to becoming a great Salsa dancer and it will enrich your cultural knowledge about Cuba and Salsa’s roots.
Josie LaRiccia is the owner and director of Josie’s International School of Dance.  Together with Miguel Aparecio, Salsa Dancer & Percussionist, they bring a taste of Cuba to Mount Vernon, New York.  Josie is well versed in many styles of cultural dance and Salsa is one of her favorites.  For this workshop she brings on board Miguel who is a wonderful Salsa dance partner and also very knowledge about Salsa’s percussion instruments.  Josie also brings her instruments to accompany many Salsa socials so that students can experience first hand how to play and jam along with recorded music.  It adds another level of expertise and FUN to your dancing!
