Internet Access Policy

The following is the Internet Access Policy for teenagers and adults:

  • The library provides public access to the internet and other networks for the purpose of information and research. It neither endorses nor takes responsibility for any information or sites accessed by the public. Parents are responsible for their children’s on-line computer use at the library.
  • No more than two people at a time are allowed on a terminal.
  • Access is available on a first come, first served basis. Time on-line is limited to twenty minutes if there is anyone waiting to use the computer. Access is determined by sign-up at reservation terminal for one hour per day per person using a library card.
  • The adult internet terminals may not be used during Children’s Room hours by anyone in the sixth grade or below, unless they are with a parent. Children should use the internet computers in the Children’s Room when it is open.
  • Wheelchair bound and other disabled patrons who need to sit may use a Children’s Room internet terminal during regular Children’s Room hours.
  • The use of library terminals for e-mail or chat is prohibited.
  • Downloading, saving and bookmarking are prohibited.
  • The altering of the operating software is prohibited and will be treated as vandalism and/or theft of services.
  • The library charges for computer printing by selling paper at the Circulation Desk for $0.10 per page. Use of any other paper for printing or tampering with printers is prohibited.
  • The library staff will be happy to provide patrons with assistance in getting on and getting started on the Internet. It will also advise patrons on appropriate URLs. It regrets that it cannot do searches for patrons or provide individual training or instruction.
  • The public is advised that the internet as a source of information is unregulated, unpredictable, and often inefficient and misleading. The majority of information needs that the public brings to this Library are equally or better met through the use of the library’s book and periodical resources. The librarian at the Reference Desk can advise on the best methods of obtaining information.
  • The library reserves the right to terminate on-line access if it determines that the user violates its access policy, its Code of Conduct, or the law.
