Code of Conduct

Mount Vernon Public Library Code of Conduct Policies for Public Behavior

The Board of Trustees of the Mount Vernon Public Library, in order that the library may operate and be administered in the best interests of the citizens it serves, publish and post these regulations applicable to all agencies of the library.

All persons entering the Mount Vernon Public Library are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct Policies for Public Behavior:

  • Possession of weapons strictly prohibited
  • Audio equipment must be used with earphones or earbuds
  • Patrons must follow the library’s acceptable internet use policy

NO:

  • Abusive language to staff or patrons
  • Person shall destroy or deface any property or materials
  • Animals except service animals
  • Smoking, eating or drinking
  • Bathing, shaving or washing clothes in the restrooms
  • Bare feet
  • Skateboards, roller blades or bicycles
  • Creating a public disturbance
  • Distributing or selling items on library premises
  • Engaging in any activity in violation of federal, state, county or local laws
  • Feet on furniture
  • Engaging in or soliciting of any sexual act
  • Fighting
  • Harassing staff or other patrons
  • Improper dress
  • Unattended children under the age of 8
  • Loitering
  • Loud use of electronics and cell phones
  • Moving furniture
  • Obstructing aisles, walkways or seating
  • Running
  • Sleeping
  • Posting of flyers and other materials without the permission of the Director

ALL MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WHO VIOLATE THE CODE OF CONDUCT MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE PREMISES OR HAVE THE LIBRARY PRIVILEGES WITHDRAWN BY THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR. PEOPLE OR PERSONS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR LIBRARY PRIVILEGES WITHDRAWN MAY APPEAL IN WRITING TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE LIBRARY FOR REINSTATEMENT.
