The institution that is the library has always been a presence in my life; a stalwart friend, even. I have loved books and reading for as far back as I can remember and the library was my gateway to literary enjoyment. In both my hometown as well as the libraries of every school I attended, I was always a dedicated patron. Upon moving to Mount Vernon with my family, I quickly began to frequent the local library and fell in love with its history and architecture. The life story of the Mount Vernon Public library is a tangible one; it can be seen and felt as one walks through the hallways and into each room. Its story can be heard through the many staff members that work here who share both their individual as well as collective experiences.

Within a couple of years of first moving here, I got a job within the library system and I couldn’t have been happier. As both a patron as well as an employee of this library, I recognize and deeply appreciate its importance to the community. It feels gratifying to be part of something positive in this community that’s greater than myself, to take part in providing a much-needed service to my fellow community members. As a mother, a patron, a college student, and an employee, I absolutely love the Mount Vernon Public Library and will always support it and its staff.
