What’s Going on in Haiti?

The lecture series that aims to entertain, engage and enlighten.  What’s Going on in Haiti? will feature Castro Desroches, author of Tales from the Island of Papa Doc.

Born in Haiti during the regime of Francois ‘Baby Doc” Duvalier, Castro Desroches is uniquely qualified to discus the interests of people in Haiti and how those interests
impact our lives in the United States.

After relocating to the United States in 1985. Desroches continued works an Instructor
of social studies in the Haitian school system by undertaking a program of advanced
study at Brooklyn College and at the City University of New York Graduate Center. For
the past sixteen years, he has served a tenured professor and the coordinator of the
French program at Nassau Community College, Nassau, New York.

Castro is the author of six books in English and French, and has been recognized in the
Haitian community and beyond as a new, refreshing voice who deftly combines
political humor and poetic storytelling to expose the roots of Haiti’s long standing
challenges.
