Library Volunteer Form

Volunteers are a valuable part of the Mount Vernon Public Library. As a volunteer at the library you will
connect with a world of literacy, cultural diversity and learning. Volunteers help improve library services
in many ways. They provide valuable hours of assistance to the public and library staff.
Some duties that our volunteers assist us with are:

  • Shelving Materials
  • Straightening and organizing materials
  • Mending and materials processing
  • Teaching Computer Skills
  • Programming Participation
  • Sharing life skills
  • Reading Buddies
  • Advocacy for libraries at public hearings and meetings
  • Beautification of the library and grounds
  • English Conversation Groups
  • Exhibitions

Training will be provided by library staff
If you are interested in volunteering your time please fill out the application and submit it online.
Volunteers generally work during the week, Monday through Friday during hours that fit into your
schedule. You will be contacted for volunteer opportunities as they become available.

    The library accepts a limited number of adult and young adult volunteers on an ongoing basis. We regret that we cannot always accommodate all applicants. Volunteer applicants are kept on file for 1 year, with potential volunteers selected and contacted as the need arises. You may want to also explore volunteering with the Friends of the Mount Vernon Public Library.
